Business Relations Managers

Snatched from a BLOG and made into a PAGE!

Many members know that our "agile" processes today may be a bit clunky & disjointed, but surprisingly effective nonetheless.  The heart-and-soul of PM Community beats in the bosoms of the business analysts and project managers who are responsible for delivering the goods!

Presently, every insider is cross-trained to handle incoming members (Intake). Each candidate must be cleared by Ref-Check before they can hit Phase One, Positioning.

Why is this important--or even mentioned here? [Outsiders couldn't care less, and you know who you are! Stop reading this Insider Blog.]

Actually, we don't care if you know learn what we do--as long as we're the ones telling you. Every Insider (staff and member) is keenly aware that "what's Inside, stays Inside" because we are a Closed-Community. FYI--we religiously guard and protect member information. Confidentiality is more than a goal, it is an absolute mandate.

BRMs Control LCM Processes

Getting back to the business of Business Analysts--who are finally getting the recognition they deserve as a bona fide profession, we wholeheartedly embrace BA principles and believe that members get more value-added by a trained specialist in this field than any super clerical support staff.  To us, BA's are different from PM's, but no less valuable!

Project Managers, with and without the PMP or other credential, are SME's in their own right. Whereas BA's spend virtually all of their time and expertise INSIDE a company, PM's are notoriously in-and-out and, depending on the project, are considered FIELD folks to us. PM's are troubleshooters, project facilitators, and change agents. They analyze the circumstances and issue immediate change orders to correct bottlenecks and problems that surely arise along the way.

On larger projects, frequently there is more than one PM's, but only one LEAD PM...who owns the project. She/he is engaged at the onset—and hopefully remains in control through delivery/closing. (In the real world, the larger and more complex the project, the less likely a lead PM survives unless she/he is part of the company from the outset. Can you say scapegoat?)

Most readers already understand the inner workings of BAs, PMs and their relationship with PMC.  Suffice it to say, we URGE every member to consider bringing in a BA or PM if/as/when engaged to help a client with a new project undertaking. Not to do so invites unhappiness and more trouble than imagined! (Have you read the latest Chaos Report from the Standish Group?)

Nota Bene: a trained BA and/or PM is worth their weight in gold (now well over $1,000/ounce!). In other words, if you as a member expect to optimum add-value to a client, make certain there is a BA or PM already onboard. If not, be a hero and recommend getting one ASAP.

If you are pro-active—and all true Trusted Advisors are—heed this advice, chances are excellent that a new BA/PM would build you into the project if only as the client's TA consultant. (TA=Trusted Advisor). Otherwise, jeopardy is afoot. Don't be surprised to NOT be (invited to become) part of the solution. Members protect members. It always cuts both ways.

Getting back on point, the PM Community family is on the lookout for more quality BA's and PM's. Okay, for members to be able to tap into first, but, also to bring INSIDE the community. Be assured the work is exciting, challenging, and (we shamefully declare) rewarding! Pay? Your community admin believes that success starts INSIDE and compensation schedules reflect this. If anyone is interested, we only hire from within--meaning members come first, OUTSIDERS second or never!

Put "Potential BA/PM" on the subject line of a memo to admin@PMcommunity.org and watch what happens.
